Preserving the heritage of the rare and remarkable Stabyhoun in Canada

Welcome to Salish Sea Stabyhouns, located on the West Coast of Canada in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland. We are honoured to be among the few Stabyhoun breeders in Canada, approved by the Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association (ASA), dedicated to preserving the beauty, temperament, and heritage of this rare and extraordinary Dutch breed.

The Stabyhoun (also known as the Stabijhoun, Friesian Pointer, or Friese Stabij) is cherished for its gentle nature, intelligence, and unwavering loyalty, making it a wonderful companion for both families and individuals. The name Stabyhoun comes from the Frisian phrase “sta-me-bij”, which means “stand by me”, a fitting tribute to this devoted and versatile breed.  For more information about the breed, please visit the Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association's website.  https://stabyhouns.org/about-the-breed/

As Approved Breeders and proud members of the Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association (ASA), we abide by the high standards of ethical breeding set out by the Association, and we are committed to ensuring the puppies are raised in an enriching environment that provides early socialization. Each puppy is carefully matched with the right home to ensure a lifetime of happiness for both dog and family.

Whether you’re discovering the Stabyhoun for the first time or already in love with the breed, we invite you to explore our site, and learn more about our commitment to raising healthy, confident, and loving companions.

Female: Wildrose Blossom - call name Ginny

Our beloved Ginny came to us from Wildrose Stabyhouns in Alberta, Canada, in 2021. She is calm, intelligent, affectionate, loyal and sometimes a little bit silly. Ginny spends a good portion of her summers with us on our sailboat.  Her favourite boating activities include fast dinghy rides, chasing birds on shore, and barking at seals.  In the winter, Ginny eagerly awaits the rare snowfall events that we have in the Lower Mainland and greets the snow with unbridled enthusiasm.  Whether it is to the store down the street or a road trip all the way to California, Ginny LOVES a car ride.  Ginny is happiest at our side, doing whatever it is we are doing, which makes her a truly great companion.

Ginny won the Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association’s Staby Queen award at the Northwest Regional Event in 2023 and received a review of “excellent” on her breeding evaluation from both judges at that event.

Check out Ginny's Instagram where you can see her many sailing adventures with her Chihuahua-cross brother, Gus.

Male: Samso Stabyhouns Carlo - call name Buster

Buster is from Samso Stabyhouns in Denmark but he now calls California home.  He is very affectionate and loves cuddles.  His favourite activities include trips to the beach, where he enjoys running in the waves and catching balls.

A fun fact about Buster is that his sire, Rogild’s Flux Jurre, is one of the very rare brown and white Stabyhouns! This means that Buster carries the brown gene. Unfortunately, since Ginny does not carry the brown gene, none of the upcoming puppies will be brown and white, but they may be carriers of the brown gene, which means that future brown and white puppies could be possible.

Check out Buster's Instagram where you can see his adventures in California.
